Amidon Labs

Bespoke Mix Design

Amidon Labs develops bespoke ballistic concrete mix designs to a specific threat profile, standard and build condition, then validates them by test.

A mix designed to your requirement, not ours

Most protective construction starts with a product and works backwards to see what it can survive. Amidon Labs works the other way round: you bring the threat profile, the standard you have to meet and the constraints of the build, and we develop a mix to satisfy them.

That matters where an off-the-shelf specification does not fit — an unusual threat, a thickness or weight limit, an aggressive environment, or a requirement that combines ballistic, blast and electromagnetic protection in one assembly.

What development covers

  • Particle packing optimisation — the density and gradation that drive energy absorption.
  • Admixture chemistry — tuned to strength, workability and cure conditions.
  • Fibre selection and dosing — controlling spall and post-impact integrity.
  • Aggregate and reclaimed carbon content — where mass, conductivity or sustainability targets apply.
  • Placement method — cast-in-place, precast panel or fillable block.

Validated before it reaches your project

A mix design is only worth the testing behind it. Candidate formulations are modelled, cast, and tested to the standard your specification is written to — UL‑752 and NIJ profiles for ballistic performance, blast pressure response, and TEMPEST or MIL‑STD‑188‑125 where electromagnetic shielding is required.

You receive the formulation, the test data and documentation packaged for your submittal and approval chain.

Who this is for

  • Owners and primes with a requirement no catalogue product meets
  • Data centre builders needing combined physical and electromagnetic protection
  • Government and defence programmes working to UFC or DoD criteria
  • Producers developing a regional variant within the Amidon Certified Producer Network
